Kirsten Anne Powers, born December 14, 1967, is a American author, columnist,
and political analyst. Powers is currently a columnist for USA Today and an on-air
analyst for CNN. The Washington Post
described her as "bright-eyed," sharp-tongued and extremely
combative". The New Republic reported
that Powers "held her position in every debate on Fox News" and
quoted Erik Wemple who described her as "a passionate advocate for her
beliefs". Powers was an Fox News
contributor and political analyst prior to becoming a contributor to CNN.
Powers was a guest on Fox News's Special Report with Bret Baier, Fox News
Sunday and The Kelly File, as in The O'Reilly Factor. Columbia Journalism Review described her as "an open
and liberal journalist". Mediaite
described her as "Fox's liberal leader who must be reckoned with." Powers was earlier a columnist for The New York Post and
then The Daily Beast. She quit USA Today to become a USA Today journalist. Powers began her column published in The American Prospect.
Her numerous articles have also been published in Elle, USA Today, Salon,
Salon, USA Today and the Wall Street Journal. Powers began her career in 1992,
working as a staff assistant to the Clinton-Gore transition teams. Powers was
later named as Deputy Assistant U.S. trade Representative for Public Affairs
during the Clinton administration from 1993 until 1998. In the following years, she was an assistant to the press
secretary, communications consultant, and political consultant.
