Amy Carlson

Amy Carlson was raised in Glen Ellyn (Illinois) and spent most of her childhood living in Chicago. Amy lived with her family in Chicago when she was in junior high school. Parents, Bob, and Barb taught at the American School in the Middle East. Amy is the youngest of three siblings, sisters Betsy and Lori and Joe, the brother. Joe. Amy has travelled all over Europe both on her own and together with her family. Because her parents were teachers, they were able to travel together every summer, and camping all across the United States. In fact, they have spent time camping in every state other than Alaska. Amy was also in Rwanda following the war in 1994 to aid relief efforts. Early on, Amy showed artistic talent performing in school productions and winning writing contests. In high school she was a dazzling athlete who won the first ever 3200-meter relay in the Illinois girls track. After sustaining an injury, she was able to go back to theater and perform a variety of roles in plays, including Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July" and Wallace Shawn's film "Aunt Dan and Lemon". Amy has graduated from Knox College in Galesburg (Illinois) in the year of cum laude, with an A.A. East Asian history, with a specialization in Theater. She moved to Chicago immediately following her graduation, where she studied Improv at the Improv Olympic and then acting in the theater at The Actor's Center. Soon after graduating, she was offered a permanent job on the now-defunct soap opera Another World (1964). The actress has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in the category of "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series". Her most memorable roles have been of strong women as Alex Taylor in Third Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone in Falcone (2000), Katie Owen with Tom Berenger in Peacemakers (2003) and Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods. Carlson lives in New York City, with Syd Butler as her husband and bassist for Les Savy Fav. She is also the proprietor of Frenchkiss Records, an independent music label, and is employed as a partner in the company. Amy is continuing to write as well as search for diverse and distinctive films and roles.
