Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16, 1937 - August 17 in 2015) was an American actress and ballet dancer famous for her part as Batgirl in the 1960s' television series Batman and as the green-skinned Orion slave girl Marta in the Star Trek episode "Whom Gods Destroy" (1969). The Huffington Post called her "a pioneer in female superheroes that were adapted for television." Yvonne Craig was raised in Columbus and was born in Taylorville in Illinois. Her family moved to Dallas in 1951. She attended W. H. Adamson High School, Sunset High School and then W. H. Adamson High School. However, she was not able to graduate as she didn't have "one credits for PE". Craig was a part of Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as the young ballerina from the youngest corps after being recognized by Alexandra Danilova who is a dancer and instructor. It was a wonderful experience that allowed her to do stunts in the role of Batgirl. In 1957, she left the company's ballet program due to an issue regarding casting changes. Then, she moved to Los Angeles with the hope to continue her career in dance. But, she found herself appearing in film roles. One of her first television performances was on an episode from the TV series Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover" 1958) alongside Neil Hamilton, who played her stepfather (later Hamilton played Police Commissioner James Gordon, Batgirl's father). After that, she appeared in three films: The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story, and Gidget (all 1959)--and also guest-starred in the TV series Mr. Lucky as Beverly Mills in the episode "Little Miss Wow" (also 1959). Craig appeared in films with Bing Crosby (1960), and Seven Women from Hell (1961) in which she was portrayed by Cesar Romero. In 1962, she appeared as guest-starring in Western Laramie's "The Long Road Back" episode. Craig also appeared with Bing Crosby in High Times (1960) as well as Seven Women from Hell (1961) and Seven Women from Hell (1961), both of which included Cesar Romero. Craig also starred in two Elvis Presley films: It Was at the World's Fair (1963), and Kissin' Cousins (1964). In 1966, she was a part-time actress in Mars Needs Women. In 1967, she was a Russian dancer on In Like Flint.
