Summer Bishil Bio

Summer Bishil was born in Pasadena, California. The family she was raised with moved overseas when she was only three. Summer went to American and British schools as her family lived abroad. She returned to Pasadena California, just before her 14th birthday. In love with the idea of becoming an actress since at the age of 5, Summer took her first acting class when she was 14 years old. Nine months later, she was signed by an agent and a manager , and started to pursue her career full-time. She attends college in her spare time, working towards her degree. The actress was named one of the "Ten Actors To Watch" by Variety (2007). Nominated for Best Actress – Spirit Award. Bishil began taking acting lessons at the age of 14. Within one year she had signed a contract with an agent and manager. Bishil began her career with the Nickelodeon TV show Just for Kicks. After that, she was signed to a contract with a manager and agency. Her most memorable role came in Alan Ball's 2007 film Towelhead. It is an adaptation of the novel of the same name. Dana Stevens, a critic for Slate, said that Bishil's performance was "the most authentic thing" in an film that even with the best intentions appeared to be fake and mildly embarrassing. It was similar to an extended PSA regarding inappropriate touching. Bob Strauss, who writes for a variety of Los Angeles newspapers, states that Bishil, "...is one of the best natural actresses in film to appear in recent times." Gary Goldstein, in a September 12 Los Angeles Times, review of Towelhead noted that Summer Bishil ("...newcomer) provides a compelling and captivating performance as Jasira. She filmed Wayne Kramer's Crossing Over project in 2009 and starred Harrison Ford and Ray Liotta. Jay Reiner of the Associated Press liked her portrayal. She was picked to play Azula in M. Night Shyamalan’s 2010 film The Last Airbender. This was to be the primary subject of the planned yet unproduced sequel.
