Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman was born May 25, 1994. She retired as an American artist gymnast. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. She was awarded a gold medal in team competitions at the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas, her teammate, also took home gold. Raisman also won silver in the individual all around and floor exercise. Raisman has silver medals from the all-around individual, in addition to the floor exercise. She was also the two-time champion of the national championships of floor exercise (2012,2015) in 2012, and the national champion in 2012 of balance beam, and five times medalist at national championships in all-around (silver in 2016, silver in 2012, 2011 2013, 2012 and the year 2015). In 2013, she was inducted into International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on May 25 1994 in Needham, Massachusetts to Lynn Faber (nee Faber), who was a former high-school gymnast and Rick Raisman. She has three younger sisters: Madison, Chloe, and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and has stated, "I take a lot of satisfaction in being able not just represent the U.S.A as well as the Jewish community all over the world. "Raisman began gymnastics when was eighteen months old. She attributes her love of gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's squad that took home the gold medal at 1996 Summer Olympics. She trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8, then went to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club, where she was trained by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman has graduated from Needham High School in 2012. She finished her senior year online , while training for the Olympics.
