ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born July 2nd, 1989 to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. Morgan, along with her sisters Jeni and Jeri were raised in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan was multisport in her childhood, however she first discovered soccer when she was 14. Morgan then became a member of the Cypress Elite club team, winning the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship and coming in third place in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to refine her skills in soccer in Diamond Bar High School. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has selected Morgan as an All-American Athlete. In addition, she was a part of the both state and regional divisions in the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Morgan continued her soccer career at UC Berkeley where she was the California Golden Bears' leading scorer in the first year of her career. She was instrumental in bringing the team to the NCAA Tournament every year and twice into the second round. Morgan was one of the four finalists for the Honda Sports Award. This resulted in her being the first Hermann Trophy finalists to be placed at the top of the list. Morgan graduated from Berkeley in the first semester of 2010 and was ranked third among all-time goals, points, and assists. Morgan was a soccer player at the collegiate and national levels throughout her education. The first time she was on the Berkeley team, Morgan experienced an ACL injury that prevented her from training with the U.S. under-20 women's soccer team until April. She scored her debut international goal in Mexico during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also a part-time player at the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. She scored four goals and earned her team a gold medal. One of them was a victory goal over Italy which earned the U.S. team a final spot in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player in the team and was the one to lead it to victory against France. Morgan was able to win despite the U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score both a goal or assist.
