He pleaded guilty to child-sex crimes and the case will be a turning point for Hernandez. The moment he met Kifano Jordan (a.k.a. "Shotti," that would be the most consequential part of that summer day in Brooklyn. Shotti was said to be a member of the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods, an element of the violent prison gang founded at New York's Rikers Island prison in 1993. He was the person responsible for the menacing gang of young men featured in the video. He was later Tekashi's unofficial manager. Then, as the authorities claim that he threatened the life of Tekashi. Hernandez began rapping in 2012 following a meeting with Peter "Righteous P" Rodgers, CEO of New York record label Hikari-Ultra in the vegan bodega Hernandez was working in in Bushwick, Brooklyn and asked whether Hernandez rapped based on his appearance. The CEO said He believed he was a rapper and suggested that it was because of this, along with Hernandez' style of rapping. Hernandez began releasing rap tracks during 2014. The artist dropped "69" in August of 2014; "Pimpin" in September 2014 and "4769" that he was working at in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The latter was Hernandez first collaboration with two members of the Brooklyn collective Pro Era (J.A.B.). and Dirty Sanchez. Over the next three years, he released several tracks and videos that bore names like "Scumlife", "Yokai" and "Hellsing Station" and was noticed for his aggressive rapping style and his use of anime as music video imagery. A lot of his first songs were released by FCK THEM, a music label that is based in Slovakia. The singer used the stage name "Tekashi69"; "Tekashi" is a reference to Japanese anime which he was a fan of and "69" is a reference to both the 69-sex position and the yin-yang symbol.
